Seat Time Recovery FAQs
What is seat time recovery?
If a student does not have enough documented hours of class time due to excessive absences or tardies, credit for a course must be denied, per South Carolina law. Allegro’s provides a recovery option called “seat time recovery,” that may provide an opportunity for a student to recover the high school credit. (If absence quantity is too high, seat time recovery may not be an option.)
I turned in excuses for all of my absences. Why am I getting an FA?
The minimum number of hours required is regardless of any reason for absences. Even with a medical or court documented reason for absences, students must meet a minimum number of hours in each class.
If I owe seat time for multiple courses, how will the recovery hours be credited?
Each hour of recovery will be applied to a math or English class first. Successful completion of these courses is a key factor in determining a student’s class designation (i.e. a sophomore, junior, senior).
Is seat time recovery free?
No. Seat time recovery takes place after school hours. Students cannot recover missed school time during the school day (by law). The fee is $10 per hour-long session. Families may pay their fee(s) here. The Free Public Education a student is entitled to is provided during the regular school day over 180 scheduled days. Anything in addition to that is not free. Additional staff must be paid to provide seat-time recovery supervision.
What day and time is seat time recovery available?
In general, seat time recovery for semester one courses takes place in January. Seat time recovery for semester two or year-long courses begins in March or April, depending on need and staff availability. Dates are determined based on staff availability. The time is 3:10 pm - 4:10 pm. However, the number of available seats is limited. After payment is made, students will be notified of the date(s) we have made a seat reservation for them.
